Let’s define Paleo.
According to Wiki, Paleo comes from the word Palaeolithic. It is known as the “cavemen diet”, “stone Age diet”, and the “hunter-gather diet”. Our earliest cousins, the earliest Primates lived more than 60 million years ago and were eating an omnivorous hunter-gatherer diet.
So what does a Paleo Diet consist of?
It consists of lean meat and fish, eggs, vegetables (non-starchy) and raw nuts and seeds. They are mainly whole foods and not processed. We pick foods that are nutrient dense with lots of natural vitamins and minerals. Food quality is important and we are careful about where the meat comes from we buy produce locally either from the wet market or from organic markets as often as possible. Such Paleo meals are not low calorie diets which consists of good fats. Fats is a great energy source when it comes from high quality foods such as avocado, coconut and nuts. Paleo diets are not low carb diets too; eat more non-starchy vegetables and fruits (some) instead of bread, cereal and pasta.
Eating like this is good for maintaining a healthy metabolism, and reducing inflammation within the body. It’s been doing great things for energy level, body composition and performance. It also helps to minimise your risk for a whole host of lifestyle diseases and conditions, like diabetes, heart attack and stroke.
Paleo Diets prohibit legumes and grains. However, eating whole grains and legumes improves our health including:
- improved blood lipids;
- better blood glucose control;
- less inflammation; and
- lower risk of stroke and coronary heart disease
Paleo-style eating emphasizes whole foods, lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and other healthy fats, which is a massive improvement over the average Western diet.
Paleo-style eating has made us more aware of how processed and crappy a lot of our 21st century food is.
This is why Karen Lee Fitness believes that Paleo meals can be prepared deliciously and combining with quality exercising, and excess weight in all of her personal training clients has been dropping off their waist line in her 12-week personal transformation pack.
