A New Kid On The Block – Taba-Yoga HIIT??

Taba-Yoga seems to be the latest craze that has hit Singapore recently. I attended my very first lesson of Taba-Yoga on Tuesday night at Alpha Balance and my my my I was impressed with the hard core intensity and core strengthening moves throughout the lengthy 60 minutes session. It was intense and fun but long! It grasps the concept of HIIT with Yoga which focuses on restorative moves in different groups of exercises in 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest.

Natasha, the Instructor was amazing who used the right blend of sequences to warm up the body. Most importantly, she taught us a couple of the breathing techniques which I used them in my HIIT training technique too. The first section mainly involved plank from plank star jumps to mountain climbers to jumps. The 10 seconds rest was very much needed.

The idea behind doing exercise in this way is that you push you body to its physical limit and the short, intense workouts provide improved athletic capacity and condition, improved glucose metabolism, and improved fat burning.

I am feeling the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) all day today especially on my shoulders and arms. It is definitely a workout that supersedes a regular hot yoga. However, the duration of the class is a bit long and it would be great to cut down to 40 minutes.

Definitely worth trying our HIIT session first before hitting the Taba-Yoga workout!

Taba-Yoga is certainly not for the faint-hearted. I can’t wait to attend my next class.
